I’ve been working as a professional music teacher since I got my first student back in 2010, and honestly, I can’t think of anything else that would bring me such joy every day. My other passion is sharing my love of teaching with other teachers! I'm obsessed with process improvement, testing new ideas and technology, and sharing my findings. That is how CreativePianoTeacher.com got started.
I have humble roots, growing up in Dardanelle, Arkansas—a town of just around 5,000 people. But, I also spent nearly a decade teaching in different parts of the Oklahoma City metro area. I now operate an entirely virtual piano studio from my home in Cincinnati, Ohio. More info about that at: www.dorroughpianostudio.com
When I need a break from music, one of my favorite relaxing activities is arranging fresh-cut flowers. Few things are as beautiful as music, but the loveliness of a perfect rose is right up at the top of my list. Travel, good books, nature walks, and time with my loved ones also fill my life and keep me feeling grateful.
M.M in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Oklahoma
B.A. in Music from Arkansas Tech University
NCTM, Nationally Certified Teacher of Music
I've also written a few books. Check out my Amazon Author Page here.
Just ask my students…. I love to collaborate on creative and original piano projects! I teach piano, pedagogy, and music theory at Bryan College in Dayton, Tennessee where I also get to teach a small studio of pre-college students through our community music school. I have a DMA in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Oklahoma, and I get excited about finding innovative ways to share music with others. I absolutely go nuts for piano ensemble music, especially when performing as part of the Chiara Piano Duo. In my spare time, you can find me hiking, crafting, brewing up some tea, and reading all the books.
